Grants Alexia Foundation Photography Grants
International Deadline: September 30, 2019 – The Alexia Foundation awards grants to student and professional visual journalists to help them produce projects that inspire change by addressing topics that are socially significant. See rules below for details on each.
Alexia Foundation Grants were created 30 years ago to support still photographers and that remains our primary mission. We recognize that the profession more and more calls for a diverse range of story forms. Therefore, while your submissions must have a set of still photographs, you may also submit other story forms as part of your grant application submission. Those may include audio, video, VR or any other visual format. There will be a spot on the submission site to post up to two links.
The Alexia Foundation will begin accepting applications on Sept. 4, 2019.
STUDENT GRANTS ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be actively pursuing a graduate, undergraduate or associate degree in an accredited college or university in the U.S. or internationally or have graduated in May 2019 or be currently on an internship. You may not apply if you have graduated as of the end of 2018. No student who has worked as a professional photographer for more than one (1) year is eligible, including internships that total more than one year.
$1,000 cash grant to Undergraduate and Graduate each to help produce the proposed project. This award also pays tuition for three under graduate or graduate courses and program fees during a semester at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
The two finalists receive: $500 and may attend a Momenta Workshop or MediaStorm Workshop during the calendar year after being named a finalist.
MediaStorm workshops: one day workshop
PROFESSIONAL GRANT ELIGIBILITY
Photographers and visual journalists from any country may apply for this Grant. Proposals for projects that have already received grants or awards of more than $10,100 in the previous calendar year are not eligible. The Grant is made to an individual photographer; project proposals that involve multiple content producers will not be accepted – unless you also submit a motion piece with your still images. You must be the primary creator on motion pieces but may have produced the piece with a small support team.
The Professional Grant recipient will receive $20,000 for the production of the proposed project.
APPLICATION – $50 entry fee
We will begin accepting applications for the Grants on Sept. 4, 2019. You can review complete guidelines on our website now.
Winners will be announced approximately Nov. 19, 2019. Judging will take place in at the Bronx Documentary Center in New York City on November 9, 2019.
